Bruce MacLean's 1928 Touring Oakland
After becoming frustrated with my own very slow progress on restoration of the 1928 Oakland Tourer I purchased many years ago, I purchased this fully restored car about 12 months ago from the daughter of the previous owner, who bought the car at a farm sale in 1956. It was originally from South Australia and was used on a farm with a large box fitted to the back to hold rabbits the family trapped on the farm to supplement their income. The car was moved to Western Australia in later years by the daughter and her husband, and was subsequently restored. It came back to South Australia in later years when the couple retired, and then to Victoria several years ago when the daughter moved to be closer to her family after her husband passed away.
The five passenger Touring body was built by Holden Motor Body Works, who built many thousands of bodies for a large number of different makes from USA and the UK, particularly General Motors products. Holden later went on to become a division of General Motors and produced Holden branded cars in Australia from 1948 until 2017.
